Tripmaxx Privacy Policy
Last updated: 11 July 2026
Tripmaxx turns your travel photos and walks into short recap videos. It is built
to keep your data on your device. We do not run servers, we do not have accounts,
and we never upload your photos, videos, location or audio to us. This policy
explains exactly what the app reads, what stays on your device, and the few cases
where data leaves your device — and to whom.
What the app reads
- Library metadata and previews. With the Photos access you grant,
Tripmaxx automatically reads capture dates and GPS geotags for photos and videos
in the period shown. It also loads preview images for discovered trips and the
Photo Activity view.
- Media used in recaps. Photo and video content is read for trips
you open, photos taken during a recorded walk, and items you select manually, so
the app can build your recap.
- Location during a walk. While a walk recording is active, your
GPS location is read to draw your route. Recording runs only while the walk is
active; it is not collected in the background otherwise.
- Motion & steps. Your step count is read to show it in a walk
recap.
- Audio you import. If you add your own music track, that file is
read to use as the soundtrack.
What stays on your device
Trip detection, offline city lookup, map compositing and video rendering run
on your device. Drafts and finished videos are stored locally.
After an export, Tripmaxx automatically adds the finished recap to Photos if you
grant add access; it shares content with other people or apps only when you ask.
When data leaves your device
Tripmaxx has no backend of its own and never uploads your library or walk trace
to the developer. Apart from content you explicitly send through the system Share
Sheet, data can reach external services only in the cases below:
- iCloud Photos. If media or a preview needed for discovery or a
recap is stored only in iCloud, Apple's Photos framework downloads it from your
own iCloud. After export, a recap automatically added to Photos may sync to your
iCloud Photos library according to your device settings. This is between you and
Apple, under
Apple's Privacy Policy.
- iCloud Drive. If a music file you choose in Files is stored in
iCloud Drive, iOS downloads it before Tripmaxx makes the local imported copy.
- Place enrichment. Individual stop coordinates may be sent to
Apple's reverse-geocoding service to look up a street, venue name or time zone.
Tripmaxx still works offline without this enrichment.
- Maps. To draw the map for your recap, the app requests map
imagery for the region of your route: Apple Maps snapshots (the default style,
handled by Apple), or satellite/street tiles from
EOX Sentinel-2 and
OpenFreeMap for the other styles.
Tile requests identify the map area and expose normal network information such
as the IP address to the provider. Providers may retain request logs under their
policies. No photo, audio or Tripmaxx account identifier is sent. The app does not
upload the ordered walk trace as a file. Offline, it falls back to bundled maps.
- Device backup. If you enable iCloud Backup, iOS may include
app preferences and local counters, draft metadata, cover previews and imported
music in your device backup. Rendered videos, reproducible caches, the active GPS
trace and local diagnostic logs are marked for exclusion from backup. Backups are
controlled in iOS and handled by Apple.
The developer receives none of this data. There is no analytics SDK, advertising
or third-party tracking in the app.
Data retention & deletion
Drafts, rendered videos and imported music remain until you delete them. You can
delete a recap from My Recaps, or delete all recaps, imported music and
reproducible caches from Settings. Deleting the app removes its local data
from the device. Neither action removes a recap already saved to Photos. iOS manages
any device-backup copies under Apple's retention rules.
Children
Tripmaxx is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data
from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date.
